Description: There is a big need for modern medicine in rural areas of the world. These areas often lack large medical facilities and the information systems need to run them. Therefore, the medical professionals that operate in these areas are mobile or situated in small offices. Facilities in these rural areas have a need for a medical information system for their members. Such on-site facilities in these rural areas include small hospitals, schools, and religious boarding education sites. Without a medical information management system, there would be no way for a doctor to know the history of their patient, what illnesses they had, what vaccinations are needed, what allergic reaction exist, etc. These information systems would assist doctors in managing medical data for the numerous patients that they visit and would allow the medical doctor to diagnose a patient properly. This would be of great advantage to facilities that do not have a consistent set of doctors that see their students or patients since data would be kept, maintained and owned by the facility. The data from this medical information system could be accessed through a number of user interfaces. Since the data structure and the system are simple, this application can be spread across multiple facilities and shared. The data could be stored on a server and a web interface could be used to access this data. An advantage to this approach is that this data can be accessed through multiple locations. Another option is that this data can be stored on local computers at the facility and accessed through graphical user interface forms with software like Microsoft Access or through a local web interface. Medical professionals visiting the facility would typically lookup patient data before visiting the patient and would update patient data when they are through. This would allow the next professional to keep track of the history of the patient so that the proper diagnosis and treatment could be made. The medical would include information about the patients themselves, doctor visits, vaccinations received, medicine prescriptions, allergies, and patient illnesses.
