Service to help kids learn Algebra by directly manipulating equations, and seeing precise detail to how the expressions are being effected by their selected operations.

The user will enter an equation and will then be provided with 4 operations to apply to the equation: Multiple, Divide, Add, & Subtract. Once the operation along with the a number is chosen, the equation will show the animation of the equation taken out to both sides of the equation. This process continues as long as the user wants, until they've solved the equation or when they feel they're ready to do it on their own.

-This will help students build equation solving skills without having to worry about arithmetic, hence easying the learning curve for beginners.

-This will also be beneficial by allowing students check their answers before submitting their solutions.

There is a program at Leapfrog (an educational game company) that helps students learn algebra by giving them hints after each step in the process. A friend of mine wrote the AI for what hints to give/what step should come next etc. Let me know if you want a contact of someone who has this experience with the non-rails parts (which FYI - took months (40 hr/wk) to write.) http://www.flypentop.com/view/page.home/home?s=algebra ColleenL at berk...
